I just got my 780 today. I don't know what I did exactly, but it won't show the Map at all, it just continues to say Drawing... on the screen, yet nothing happens. It shows City Navigator NA NT 2008 installed with a check mark. Ok now it's finally doing something, a took a while. Why is the GPS so SLOW? I just did a Zoom up 1 level and it's drawing things at slowmo speed. So I guess the new question is, WHY is my GPS running in snail pace mode, it wasn't at first.

I have done both! It does no good. When I first got it, it was working just fine, but sometime in the process of updating the software to 2.60 and downloading the MSN Direct update and getting a couple Mad Maps, it started doing it's thing. It's so slow, I never see the Map while driving as it has to update as you go and since it takes forever to even do it, I get nothing other then a DRAWING... message on the screen. I do get the next street names on the top of the screen being shown, and I can have it Navigate me someplace and it'll do it by voice just fine, but again no Map Data being shown.
I have also notice that going to Find Movie Area, it may show the the first page just fine, but going down deeper I just get the Hourglass Icon forever, while at other times it's quick doing the same thing?!?!?! It show Pictures fine, it plays my MP3's just fine. The Bluetooth works great with my phone, I don't need a silly looking thing attached to my ear, the GPS actually works surprising well as a Hands free device, but this Slowness problem is driving me crazy.
I e-mailed Garmin and they told me to do the exact same 2 things. Gee thanks, since I had already told them I updated to the latest 2.60 version of the software, and in fact have tried Reinstalling it with no effect. This is my 3rd Garmin GPS Unit, which I also own a 2610 and a GPS60. I like a lot of what the 780 does, but there are things I miss about the 2610. Right now though the 780 is almost worthless with it's slowness.
Oh and the Hard Reset doesn't seem to clear everything. MadMaps is still there, some of the MSNDirect Data is still being shown, it would start being quick Displaying the map at first, but after locking on to where I'm at, the Slowness just comes back. It's driving me nuts.

did you upgrade the firmware to the latest version? Check with the webupdater. Thibaud

Ya I did the hard Reset by Pushing on the lower right of the screen and turning on. It asked for the Time Zone and what not once again. I do it inside where I don't get any Satellite signal. When it's first booted up and I go into the MAP it seems to work just fine, I can Zoom in and Out and move around, while it's at the Default Gamin USA part of the Map. When I go outside and it locks onto the Satellites for where I'm at in California, it's done for! It's in extra Slow Mode Map Drawing... mode once again. It will still tell me the Upcoming streets on the top of the Display just fine, and will even give Voice Navigation to a location just fine, I just get no MAP. If I wait a while it'll slowly Pop up, first the Car Icon, and then layer after layer very very slowly, but as soon as it as to do a Map Update when you move, it starts the process all over again. So when I'm driving, it's worthless as it would be Map Updating non-stop, and I don't sit at a light long enough for it to even to have time to Pop up the Car Icon. When it's in Slow Map Mode, then some things while in MSN Direct run really slow also, usually when I go down a couple layers then I get the forever Hour Glass Icon waiting for something to happen, when at other times, doing the same thing it's quick. This isn't my first Garmin GPS as I have 2 others. Anyway it looks like Garmin is going to have me send this one in to them. However long that is going to end up taking.
Is there a way to go to a Satellite Page on the 780 like on the 2610? I miss that feature. The FM Modulator Sucks!!! Far worse then what my XM Skyfi Unit can do. Luckily I installed a Aftermarket Direct Input into my Factory Stereo and it has 2 Inputs, so I have a free one to use with the 780 for 100 times better sound. Now if I can only have the Map working correctly and I still need to order up a Mount for my Motorcycle when I'm riding that.

You didn't read my whole message or missed it. I had said I updated to the latest 2.60 version. I have even tried Re-updating and it hasn't done a thing to help me.

Yes, you're unit is defective. GARMIN has a very quick turn around time. Usually a day or two.
> Is there a way to go to a Satellite Page on the 780 like on the 2610?
No, the nuvi is very different than the 2610. To get to the sat. status page hold your finder on the sat. sig. indicator on the top left of the display for a few seconds and release. It will go to the sat. status page. --

That's good to know. I also seem to have a problem with MSN Direct, I'm not getting any info now and in fact it keeps telling me that the Reciever and antenna are in the power cable and it needs to be plugged in to get content, yet it is plugged in and the Unit is ON. It was working at first and I had 3 Bars for it, but it doesn't seem to show that now either, I just keep getting the message that it needs the power cable plugged in. It's being powered by it, but I keep getting this message. I hope it's just this flaky GPS.
>> Is there a way to go to a Satellite Page on the 780 like on the 2610?

I tried pushing there at first to see if anything would happen, and nothing, trying the hold he finger there for a few seconds though does work, so thanks. I really like the nice clear sharp screen, it makes the 2610 look a little primitive, and the thinness of the 780 over the 2610 is nice. One of the resons I went with the 780 over say the 680 is I didn't like the popup antenna in the back. The 2610 didn't do that, I didn't want my new one doing that either. I get a nice strong signle pickup, and I don't even have my external antenna plugged in. Now that I can see the Satalite page, I can see how good it works with both the Internal antenna and the external antenna and see if I want to get rid of the external antenna or just keep it. The External I'm sure would be a bit better Reception, but it's a hassle to plug and unplug that little plug which I wish would have plugged into the Mount and not the Unit It's selve, or have both. Same with the Audio Hookup. Like my XM Skyfi Unit the Antenna, Power, and Audio plugs are in the Mount, it only takes a second to pop it in or remove it. I don't have to screw around with any of those connections, less wear and tear on the plugs. It's already has fancy Multi-pin plug there on the bottom, why not widen it a bit and add the other 2 connections to the mount? That would make it perfect.
